Polyethylene (PE) - Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

Polyethylene (popularly called polythene) is a translucent and flexible thermoplastic resin with excellent chemical resistance. It is among the lightest plastics and is easily distinguishable from other plastics because it floats in water. It is widely used as a film by itself or applied to printing paper to provide finish, strength and moisture resistance.

It is used for diverse applications such as packaging films, milk and water bottles, food containers, and children's toys.

Properties:
It offers the following advantages:
Thermal resistance: Makes its application possible between -40°C to 100°C
Chemical resistance: Suitable for transport of waste material and water
Impact resistance: Unbreakable at temperatures greater than 5°C
Insulating: Non-conductive
Elastic: Suitable for underground pipes
Smooth Internal Wall: Poses a low blockage risk due to low residue effects
Wear resistance: Long durability therefore low cost of ownership
Environmentally friendly: Non-toxic and recyclable
Lightweight: Saves transportation and handling costs
Highly suitable for welding: Easy installation using electro-fusion techniques
Homogenous welded joints: End-load resistant and leak proof

Product Families: LDPE offers good corrosion and moisture resistance. LDPE is used widely in orthopaedic products due to its flexibility. It is also used in products where mobility without stress fatigue is needed.

Applications:
Rigid containers and packaging films
Medicals and Surgical Equipment
Wires, cables and anticorrosion coating
