Spices - Coriander Seeds

Coriander (CoriandrumSativum) also known as Cilantro, Chinese Parsley, or Dhania belongs to the Apiaceae family. The Coriander plant grows to 50 cm in height and the leaves are slender and feathery higher up on the stem. The coriander seed is 3–5 mm in diameter.

Uses: The term 'Coriander' in food recipes generally refers to coriander seeds. The dry fruits of the plant are known as coriander seeds. Coriander seeds are usually roasted or heated for heightened flavor. The leaves are used to make sauces and for garnish. In parts of Europe, they are used to make rye bread and in the preparation of sausages. In Asian cuisines, coriander seeds are ground and used in spices and curries along with cumin. Coriander seeds are rich in dietary fiber, calcium, iron, selenium, magnesium and are used often for traditional medicinal purposes.
